Are Industries Hard-to-Abate, or is it Hard to Start Building Today what we Need for Tomorrow?

Geothermal Energy Could Give Old Oil and Gas Wells a New Lease On Life

A case study on heating water for cattle lays the groundwork for estimating cost and predicting energy output from retrofitted wells.

As Alberta's Eavor builds wells globally, geothermal energy plays catch-up in Canada

This article suggests Alberta is far behind other countries in terms of geothermal resource development. In Alberta, (unlike Iceland, Japan, Philippines, and much of Europe) the geothermal resource is not sufficiently abundant or accessible where population centres exist and it is expensive to develop. Whether developing solar, wind or geothermal resources, the resource availability should justify it.

CSEG Mentorship Event - "Ask Me Anything" with Eavor Technologies

AMA (Ask Me Anything) Session #1 Eavor - 2022

Join the CSEG (Canadian Society of Exploration Geophysicists) and guest speakers Anna Rogers and Peter Bauman with Eavor Technologies Inc. We'll be discussing the role that geoscientists have in creating a cleaner energy future. Eavor is a tech company that is taking geothermal and making it scalable by removing the need for either volcanic-type temperature or permeable aquifers.

Natural Resources Canada Invests $1.3M for Geothermal Energy Projects in Nova Scotia Communities

NRCAN is investing over $1.3M in a community geothermal resource capacity assessment and training program (GeoCAT) in Nova Scotia. This program will build development capacity for mid-depth geothermal energy-based projects in 12 rural Nova Scotia communities and five Mi’kmaq communities.

Fort Nelson Geothermal Project Proceeds to Next Phase

A recently completed 30-day pump test is being labelled as a critical milestone for the geothermal project near Fort Nelson, British Columbia.

Mapping the Technoeconomic Feasibility of Geothermal Resources in Alberta

Sustainable Energy Development graduate and Geothermal Canada's Student Director, Gordon Brasnett has created an interactive model for determining the economic viability of geothermal projects across Alberta.

Untapped Potential: Yukon Government Crafting Legislation on Geothermal Energy

As early as next fall, the Yukon could have laws in place that govern the extraction of geothermal energy for the first time.

PTRC to Conduct Geothermal Feasibility Study in Estevan, Saskatchewan

The City of Estevan, along with the Southeast Saskatchewan Economic Partnership (SSEP), which is comprised of the RM of Coalfields, RM of Estevan, and the Town of Bienfait, has awarded a grant to the Petroleum Technology Research Centre to conduct a feasibility study examining the potential for developing geothermal heating in the City and nearby municipalities and communities.
